A breastfeeding mom was harassed on a flight as she peacefully nursed her baby.
Instead of simply letting her feed her baby – a male flight attendant began staring at her breast and making rude comments to her for “pulling it out.”
Thankfully her husband was there and had a few choice words for this brash flight attendant – and you won’t believe what he had to say.
To start, women need to feed their babies – period.
Some women choose formula – others breastfeed – but regardless of which method they choose, it is 100 percent their decision.
And since breastfeeding is a natural (and free) way to provide nourishment to a growing baby – many women take advantage of the health benefits and choose to breastfeed as long as they can.
A baby getting fed shouldn’t be a scene for commotion – but one male flight attendant couldn’t believe a woman would dare breastfeed her baby on his flight.
He proceeded to gawk at the woman uttering snide remarks until her husband finally stepped in.
The Mirror reported:
“Taking to social media, he said: “My wife [was told] to cover up while breastfeeding our infant on a flight because it made the flight attendant uncomfortable while he stood over our seat staring – in 2022.” While the man reminded the flight attendant that he could simply stop looking at his wife’s breast, he instead decided to continue staring and blamed her for “pulling it out” for everyone to see.
The man added: “When I notified that he was welcome to not look at my wife’s breast, he declared that she should not pull it out and that it was common courtesy.
“When my wife responded, ‘My baby needs to eat’, he said, ‘Yeah’, and walked away. She wasn’t showing any more than someone in a bathing suit.”
To attempt to shame a woman for simply feeding her baby is unacceptable – but it happens more often than you think.
Shelby Angel was breastfeeding her child on a KLM flight when a flight attendant came over with a blanket to “cover her up.”
Naturally, Shelby was upset and wrote a public post on social media about what happened.
KLM tried to save face by saying women are allowed to breastfeed but must “cover up” so as not to “offend” other passengers.
Conde Nast reported:
“KLM has largely doubled down on those policies. “Breastfeeding is permitted at KLM flights,” the airline wrote on Twitter in response to backlash over the incident.
“However, to ensure that all our passengers of all backgrounds feel comfortable on board, we may request a mother to cover herself while breastfeeding, should other passengers be offended by this.”
What about making the breastfeeding mom and her baby comfortable?
If other passengers are “offended” because a mom is feeding her baby – they need to deal with their own issues – not force their discomfort on to others to accommodate.
But the truth is, women face breastfeeding discrimination when traveling all the time – whether nursing inside a museum or even a restaurant – countless women have reported times staff attempted to throw covers over their baby’s face – or even kick them out.
Breastfeeding is beautiful and natural – and let’s hope the stigma and shame others try to force on these mamas stops once and for all.
What are your thoughts on the male flight attendant shaming a breastfeeding mom?
Why do you think some moms still face a stigma for feeding their children?
