While traveling, many people often make the mistake of wearing all the wrong things.
And no – we’re not talking about the wrong color – we’re talking about things that will delay your travel – or even get you killed.
So before you book your next flight – make sure you aren’t guilty of wearing some of these popular items.
Skip The High Heels
Please – do not be that person walking through the airport in 4-inch stilettos or platform shoes.
Yes – heels make your legs look good – but they destroy your feet.
Unless you have an elite status and a BMW is picking you up at the gate – you’ll be walking through the airport like the rest of us.
From gate changes to connecting flights – most of us do a LOT of walking at the airport.
And not only will you be in immense pain if you force yourself to wear a pair of heels – but it can be dangerous too.
The last thing you need is your heel getting caught in an escalator, causing a nasty fall or a twisted ankle, as you try to navigate your overstuffed luggage onto a crowded airport train.
Instead – get a pair of stylish flats that are comfortable – trust me – you won’t regret it.
Ditch The Warm Clothing
Even if it’s freezing outside – resist the temptation to put on your heaviest warm and fuzzy sweater.
Why?
Airports and airplanes are hit or miss – sometimes they are freezing – and sometimes they are so hot you can’t even stand it.
A plane packed full of sweaty bodies with stale, recycled air blowing around will make your choice to wear a hot, fuzzy sweater absolutely miserable.
But fear not – the key to staying warm when traveling is layers!
Consider a comfy t-shirt or tank top – and then layer over it.
This way if you are cold you can cover up and if you’re hot you can take it off.
It really is a win/win.
Avoid Excessive Jewelry
Most of us have been there…
… we’re trying to get through the TSA screening process as quickly as possible only to be held up by the woman with excessive jewelry having to take off each gaudy necklace and bracelet.
Not only will wearing a lot of jewelry slow you down – but it isn’t smart.
The last thing you want to do is draw attention to yourself when traveling and flaunt your wealth.
Even if your jewelry is cheap – you still stand out as a target to thieves who are looking to make a quick buck.
If you can – avoid jewelry while traveling.
When traveling internationally, I even advise women to wear a simple metal band or silicone ring to show they are engaged or married and leave their diamond ring at home.
Additional items to avoid include things like tight or uncomfortable clothes (remember our bodies swell in the air), ultra-offensive clothing (unless you don’t mind getting shot), and skimpy clothes.
But other than that – wear whatever you want and have fun!
And try not to roll your eyes at the young girl limping through the airport in her high heels.
