The Food
El Salvador has some of the best food we’ve ever tried.
And let’s face it, we’ve sampled a lot of grub.
To start, when you visit El Salvador, you must check out the pupusas!
This traditional Salvadorian dish is composed of steaming hot stuffed tortillas (you can choose your base of corn or rice) with endless filling options.
And the best part is – you can stuff them with almost anything.
Cheese. Jalapenos. Garlic. Onion. Chicken. Pork. Beans. Or all of the above.
Really.
They’ll put whatever you want inside.
Even more wonderful is there are pupuserias all over El Salvador. And, they average only .70 cents each.
Yes. 70 cents. A piece.
And three of them will fill you.
Not bad.
Protip – avoid the side garnishes of curtido and salsa – unless you have a strong stomach that’s resistant to bacteria.
If you’re still hungry (unlikely), try one their famous fried plátanos (plantains) which come served with cream and beans.
Trust us, you’ll be hooked.
