Since our beginnings, human beings have loved to explore their surroundings by traveling away from home.
In the earliest days, humans had no choice but to walk – there was no other form of transportation, except maybe using a native beast of burden.
If you ask any liberal their opinion on modern travel, they’ll basically express that that’s the way it should be again (minus “exploiting animals” by riding them). But, as always, their hypocrisy is endless.
Conspicuous consumption…
All we seem to hear nowadays is how we’re killing our planet. “Green” is the word of the decade, and it’s a “top priority” for the left as we enter election season.
To them, we’re all rotten, selfish consumers who use too many of the Earth’s resources and do nothing to give back. They’re the “saviors” of the poor and downtrodden, as they jet-set around the world in their private planes and travel with all the luxuries to spread the word about how much they care.
And it’s not just the dozens of liberal candidates running for office. The Hollywood elite, the trashy reality stars, and European royalty all want to save the world – as long as it benefits their image.
Ah, royalty. Nothing like making the commoners feel like you care by flaunting the ostentatious lifestyle you never worked a day to earn.
There’s a reason we fought to get out from under the thumb of these people by winning our independence.
But there are plenty of them still out there, and they’ve taken a popularity hit in recent years because, well, we’re just plain sick of their wealth and their pomp – not to mention their all-day weddings that wipe out an entire day of television we hard-working Americans look forward to.
For example, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle (Hollywood star becomes royalty – you go, girl!) have come under fire recently because they created their “we’re not like the rest of our family” reputation by traveling all over the world doing good deeds for those less fortunate.
Don’t get me wrong — out of all of the modern royals, Prince Harry seems to be mostly a decent guy, has an admirable rebellious streak, and is definitely the best-looking.
But despite their good works and initiatives and human rights campaigns, people are angry. They’re angry because the young royals are ruining the environment with all their do-gooding.
They fly around – a lot. And as you know, airplanes are the devil’s playthings because they release all sorts of bad stuff into the atmosphere and cause a domino effect that will apparently lead to our imminent demise.
How dare they! Don’t they have a responsibility to stop traveling so they can set a good example for the rest of us?
Yeah, this is what the liberal greenies think.
What they don’t think about is that we all have to work and do our duty – even Hottie Harry with all his inherited wealth – and we can’t just stop everything because they claim something is wrong with what we’re doing.
Rocketman!
It’s always good to have a wealthy and powerful friend on your side. And who better than Elton John to come to the rescue of Harry and Meghan?
Sir Elton immediately came to the couple’s defense when they were attacked for using a private jet a few too many times. (Like, more than once.) He said that they were coming to visit, and he lent them his private plane – and even purchased carbon offsets for them. (More on that later…)
What a guy.
The reality is that out of all the rich and famous who can do whatever they want – especially British royalty – Harry and Meghan almost always fly commercially. People like that they’re at least trying to limit their “carbon footprint” by not taking a private plane anytime they go somewhere.
But therein lies the hypocrisy of the liberal agenda. They took a private plane for the first time in a long time, and the greenies lost their minds.
Harry came to his own defense by saying that there was a security concern on that trip, and he wanted to choose the safest option for his wife and baby. Can’t blame the guy for that.
Then, because everyone was ready to come after him with torches and pitchforks, Harry and Meghan announced they were starting a global initiative called Travelyst.
“We want to be the driving force that paves a new way to travel, helping everyone explore our world in a way that protects both people and places, and secures a positive future for destinations and local communities for generations to come,” according to their website.
So… yeah, we’re gonna keep traveling because we’re rich and powerful, but we don’t want to lose face with the commoners, so here’s something that will shut them up.
No, that’s not on the website, but maybe it should be. There isn’t one wealthy, powerful liberal who is going to stop flying all over the world.
How would they go to all the fashion shows in Paris? Or the private islands they vacation on?
It’s not gonna happen. They want to look like they care about the planet, so they throw a few bucks at candidates and organizations that say they’re going to save the world. And then they jump on their next flight.
As promised, what the heck is a “carbon offset”?
There’s nothing wrong with trying to be responsible and take care of the planet that God created for us. We have to be good stewards of that.
But people cannot – and will not – stop flying in airplanes. In fact, there are a lot of things we could be doing to keep our world clean, but we’re overworked or lazy. We don’t like to change our habits.
Until someone makes Star Trek-style transporters a reality, we’re going to use airplanes and use them often – especially people with the financial resources to travel limitlessly.
So back to Elton John’s purchase of “carbon offsets” for Harry and Meghan. (Which makes me wonder, aren’t they rich enough to buy them for themselves? Hmm, interesting.)
Carbon offsets are like gift certificates that can be purchased to help create projects that will reduce greenhouse gases in other parts of the world. It’s like having your cake and eating it too.
Supposedly, you can purchase a certain “amount” that will help fund some kind of eco-friendly project in another part of the world, and you don’t have to feel guilty for continuing to use an airplane and ruining the atmosphere in your neck of the woods.
Say Harry takes a long vacation and flies all over the place in his private plane. He can then purchase these carbon “offsets” that may fund solar panels for a business or help a farmer purchase non-gas-guzzling machinery.
Individuals and businesses can purchase them to “offset” their guilt, and they’re voluntary – for now. Just give it time.
But, like everything else greenies come up with, there’s no proof it’s going to help anything.
Maybe your carbon offset purchase went to plant a few hundred trees and then a tornado wipes them out before they can give off enough oxygen.
It’s just another way to rationalize our behaviors – something all humans love to do.
And environmental “experts” think that the ability to purchase carbon offsets will just make people less aware of their impact because they feel like they can do all the damage they want and not feel guilty.
The more likely scenario is that the screaming liberals are going to keep up their temper-tantrums until elected officials find other options just to shut them up. Options like “frequent traveler levies” – a.k.a. more taxes.
The hypocrisy will never end because everyone always wants to blame someone other than themselves for the ills of the world.
At least Harry doesn’t pretend that he’s going to stop flying. And he looks good doing it.
