Most people think a trip to one of the Mountain States should be reserved for winter (think mountain skiing and snowboarding).
But don’t knock a trip out west during the summer either.
From a morning spent in an infinity pool to hiking up rock formations – capped off with watching the sun set against a mountain backdrop – we’ve outlined the best of the best in one of America’s most beautiful states. And our suggestions might surprise you.
If you haven’t guessed yet – we’re talking about Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Truly, there is something for everyone – from your adrenaline-seeking traveler to your luxury-minded types – check out these places that offer the best of Colorado Springs.
Garden Of The Gods
There’s a reason nearly six million people visit this National Natural Landmark each year.
Not only is it beautiful to walk among the towering sandstone rock formations with a view of Pike’s Peak – but you can make your trip as leisurely or as active as you choose.
I personally love just strolling along the paved trail and snapping photos…
… but hardcore, outdoors buffs will love the opportunity to choose their own adventure – whether it’s a challenging hike or rock-climbing experience.
Even if you aren’t the “outdoorsy” type, you can still have fun sipping coffee in their glass-enclosed café and revel in the breathtaking view.
Pictures just don’t do this place justice.
The Broadmoor
This legendary resort boasts both a Five-Star and Five-Diamond rating – and for good reason.
If you are a foodie – you have your choice of several options. You can sink your teeth into hand-cut prime steak at La Taverne or enjoy fish and chips at the Golden Bee, a 19th century British pub.
Fun fact – according to The Broadmoor – this pub was actually transferred panel by panel directly from the UK!
Start your day with a stroll around the lake for your morning exercise.
After a good workout, guests can enjoy lounging near the “zero entry” infinity pool or indulge in a spa treatment complete with aromatherapy rooms.
And if you “travel like a conservative” and golfing is your thing – you’re in luck!
The Broadmoor’s website claims their golf club is ranked one of the best in the world – where Presidents, celebrities, and athletes have played.
If you like luxury and enjoy the best of the best – we recommend a night or two at The Broadmoor.
Mamitas
If you’re hungry and love Mexican food – Mamitas is where it’s at.
Known to serve the finest Mexican cuisine in Colorado Springs, this brightly-colored restaurant is full of vibrant hues and has an authentic feel with furniture imported from Guadalajara.
You can order everything from shredded beef tacos to sizzling steak or chicken fajitas.
And they even have more unique choices like their ham and chorizo breakfast burrito or camarones mexicanos con crema (shrimp in cream).
Oh – and their portions are HUGE.
I’m talking gigantic.
You won’t go hungry – and their prices are reasonable.
Palmer Park
Whether you spent the day hiking in Garden Of The Gods or lounging by the pool at The Broadmoor– there’s no better way to end your day than an evening at Palmer Park.
You can drive right up to the top of the mountain for a stunning sunset view.
There’s a reason Elevation Outdoors Magazine named Palmer Park the “Best Urban Park” in its Best of Rockies 2017 list.
Summer In Colorado Springs
While it’s fun to visit Colorado in the winter and ski or snowboard – don’t knock a summer trip.
Yes, the days are hot, but the evenings are cool and pleasant – and there is literally something for everyone.
