Aokigahara (Sea Of Trees, aka Japan’s “Suicide Forrest”)
Mount Fuji, Japan
Situated at the base of Mount Fuji, this beautiful forest should be a great tourist destination. With 12 square miles of lush greenery, it truly is a breathtaking park.
Unfortunately, this forest also has a dark reputation.
It’s hard to tell exactly when Aokigahara gained its name as the “Suicide Forrest,” but it wasn’t always this way.
Perhaps it is the signs along the path urging visitors to seek help if they’re feeling depressed or suicidal.
Unfortunately, several people have hung themselves in the forest.
And it didn’t help when YouTuber Logan Paul infamously posted a video of a suicide victim he had discovered there.
Additionally, movies like 47 Ronin and The Forest likely also furthered the forest’s dark reputation.
