PHILIPPINES
The Philippines is a mess. Drug wars, terrorists, kidnappings…and now measles.
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is waging a literal “War on Drugs,” having killed an estimated 12,000 drug pushers and users in just two years according to international watchdog group, Human Rights Watch.
But even if you stay clear of the drug trade, there is no assurance of safety in the Philippines.
According to the U.S. State Department, 74 Americans have been killed there since 2009. Meanwhile, other Americans have been kidnapped and held for ransom by terror groups who know that wealthy relatives of American tourists will pay up rather than see their loved ones tortured or killed.
If that’s not enough to dissuade you, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control just announced the discovery of a major measles outbreak in the country.
