2.Be Watchful for Food Quality
Fruits, vegetables, and salad stuffs may have also been washed in tap water, making you susceptible to any parasites or bacteria.
If you order a salad, ask for extra limes. Squeeze the lime juice over your salad or vegetables which will aid in killing the bacteria according to USA Today.
If you are eating fruit that you will peel yourself, there is less risk of a bacterial infection. But make sure to wash your own hands before digging into those perfectly ripe mangoes!
Also try and catch a look at the chef or the cook, because you can probably bet that the food is about as clean as he or she is. If the person preparing your food doesn’t look like they are keeping themselves tidy and sanitary, it’s a bad sign.
There are also many food vendors in Mexico and the aroma will be very enticing. If you want to get a couple (or four!) authentic bean and cheese burritos, find a vendor where they make their food to order.
Eating food that has sat out on display or even under a heat lamp leaves it open to bacteria growth and insects who like to lay their eggs in your lunch.
