Marisa Fotieo was aboard her flight when suddenly her throat started to hurt.
Most travelers would simply pop a cough drop and take a nap – but Marisa decided to head to the airplane bathroom and give herself a rapid COVID-19 test.
As it turns out – her results came back positive, and at the request of a flight attendant Marisa spent the remaining 5 hours of her flight isolated in the airplane bathroom – and just wait until you hear the details.
To start, the whole situation is utterly insane.
I mean who carries around a rapid COVID-19 test in their purse?
Are we to the point where it’s common to test oneself mid flight “just in case”?
Not to mention, rapid COVID-19 tests are hard to come by – and many still doubt their accuracy.
But Marisa was so distressed over her sore throat – she couldn’t relax during her flight until she tested herself for COVID.
Once she discovered she was positive she began to panic.
She first notified a flight attendant of her recent discovery, who then started looking for a place where she could isolate from other travelers until they landed.
But since the plane was full, the flight attendant wasn’t able to find a spot to stick her – so she asked the unthinkable.
Wanting to keep Marisa away from other passengers – the flight attendant asked her if she’d be willing to isolate in the bathroom for the duration of her flight – promising to bring her snacks and food.
Marisa was so scared of spreading COVID-19 to other passengers she agreed.
News 4 San Antonio reported:
“It was a full flight. So, she was going to look for ways to move people around so I could have a designated area just to quarantine by myself during the remainder of the flight. And after a while she couldn’t find, she couldn’t move people.
There were too many people on the plane. It was, you know, they had to get the meals out, they had to get the drinks out. So, she asked if I would be okay staying in the bathroom and I opted to stay in the bathroom.”
You just can’t make this stuff up.
Marisa estimates she spent about 5 hours barricaded in the bathroom – sitting on a toilet in a cramped space eating food and snacks flight attendants brought her.
Not bothered in the least by her experience – Marisa acted like it was completely normal to be eating snacks while sitting on a toilet in an airplane for 5 hours – and was thankful for the flight attendant “helping her.”
“She made sure I had everything I needed for the next five hours from food to drinks and constantly checked on me assuring me I would be all right,” Fotieo wrote in an email to NBC News.”
Of course, not missing a beat, Marisa made TikTok videos of her experience – which has since been viewed nearly 5 million times.
As bizarre as this story is – I have a feeling we’ll see more craziness this winter.
Let’s hope people keep their senses this travel season…
… and understand they don’t have to eat airplane food while sitting on a toilet isolated in a bathroom for 5 hours– regardless of how “polite” the flight attendant makes the request.
