As the list of countries Americans are forbidden to enter continues to grow – the question now becomes where are Americans actually allowed to enter?
The cold-hard truth is most countries are off limits to Americans – regardless if they have money to spend or not.
And while the U.S. passport was once viewed as a golden ticket to freely travel the world – Americans are now shunned at the border or forced to self-quarantine as more and more countries shut their doors to Americans.
But the good news is – while the list is small, there are still some countries who welcome American tourists!
The State Department still advises against international travel, but if you’re looking to get out and explore the world regardless, here is a list of countries who will welcome you in.
Sure, the DR might have gotten a bad rep for Americans mysteriously dying while visiting…
… but it is actually a beautiful country known for its soft white-sand beaches.
And yeah, to enter you’ll need to fill out a form saying you don’t have any COVID-19 symptoms but if you don’t have a temperature or aren’t experiencing any active symptoms – they’ll take your word for it instead of forcing you to present negative COVID-19 test results or demanding you self-quarantine.
As it should be.
A relaxing and secluded visit on the beach might be the perfect summer vacay.
Just watch what you drink.
Punta Cana anyone?
If you’re looking for the perfect island vacation – the Maldives is a must.
Whether you long to snorkel and experience marine life up close, or try your hand at surfing – this beautiful country is truly an ocean oasis.
And don’t worry – the Maldives is practically BEGGING Americans to come, boasting of all the things they are NOT forcing to travelers to do.
A Visit Maldives press release stated:
“According to the guidelines, tourists are not required to pay an additional fee, produce a certificate or test result indicative of negative status for COVID-19 prior to entry into Maldives. For tourists without symptoms, there is no requirement for quarantine either.”
No exorbitant fee. No mandatory quarantine. And no “proof” you’re healthy to enter.
For those who can’t afford to rent their own island but want to experience the beauty of Maldives – this is about as good as it gets!
While the land border between the U.S. in Mexico remains closed except for “essential travel”– Americans are allowed to fly into Mexico.
Some popular destination spots like Cancun and Los Cabos have reopened to tourists.
You are not required to present negative COVID-19 test results to enter, you will undergo some health screenings like temperature checks.
But a word of caution, Mexico is seen as a COVID-19 hotbed right now – so visit at your own risk.
Turkey is one of the few countries welcoming Americans to enter its borders.
While not typically viewed as a “typical” vacation spot – you can definitely have a unique experience checking out the local culture.
Istanbul is a transcontinental city located in both Europe and Asia and is known for its culture, food, and history.
Enjoy a Turkish breakfast and walk the streets experiencing all the colorful items for sale in the bazaar.
Sip on a hot cup of tea in the evening and relax by the water.
A few things to note – you will need a visa to enter and you will undergo a health screening upon entering.
If you have active symptoms – they will test you for COVID-19 – and if you are positive you’re headed straight to a Turkish hospital.
And of course, if you choose to visit Turkey, the State Department warns Americans to avoid the hot areas near Iraq and Syria due to terrorist activity.
Definitely not a trip for a rookie traveler – but for those looking for a new experience don’t completely cross Turkey off your list!
Here’s the deal – if you truly have your heart set on taking an international trip right now – know what you’re in for.
The airlines are still a bit crazy as they try and work out their “mask mandates” making them more strict by the day.
You still won’t get the chance to do as much as you normally would on a vacation.
But if you’re simply looking to soak in new scenery and unwind – anywhere but where you are – at least for now there are still a few countries welcoming Americans!
