Road trips are the classic family bonding experience that every kid remembers – for better or for worse.
But with all the annoying restrictions and rules put on air travel right now, hitting the open road seems to be the most popular form of family travel once again.
However, while you may not have to worry about repetitive and unnecessary COVID testing or wrestling children into their masks, you may be headed to a city where bad attitudes need to be checked and some residents should cover their mouths!
As you head to your destination, don’t accidentally cut someone off to avoid missing the turn to your hotel or you will feel the fury.
In fact, you might even begin to contemplate whether drivers haven’t become even more rude than before…
… or if you’re just becoming more sensitive to it.
Well, from the looks of one study, let’s just say it’s not you – it’s definitely them!
Insurify.com composed a list of the top cities in America that are home to the rudest drivers based on data from their over 4 million customers nationwide.
Some of the cities that made the list will not surprise you at all, while others will leave you shocked.
For the study, the company looked at the following infractions:
- Failure to yield
- Failure to stop
- Improper backing
- Passing where prohibited
- Tailgating
- Street racing
- Hit-and-run
According to an in-depth report of 869 cities, these are the top 4 destinations in the United States where you can anticipate getting more than just the “you’re not from around here, are you” look from the locals.
1. Rancho Cordova, California
With 65.37 rude drivers per 1,000, Rancho Cordova may be a deterrent to visitors – despite the nice weather, numerous outdoor activities, and its plethora of great shopping like Zinfandel Plaza.
But one would expect the Golden State to make the rudest drivers list with their elitist attitudes and entitlement mentality fostered by a far-left government.
Afterall – the entire state of California hates freedom, so it’s not surprising their drivers are angry and rude.
Also, we should warn you: Rancho Cordova is mere minutes from San Francisco – which just so happens to be on the top 10 list of rudest citizens in the United States. So maybe you’re better off avoiding that region (or the state!) altogether.
2. Citrus Heights, California
So would you look at that.
California also holds the number two slot of rudest drivers with Citrus Heights, California showing its true colors.
While the area is known for its beautiful landscape, wildlife, and shopping, it’s also known for its high crime.
Hoping to make the city sound more alluring, a developer even changed its name – yet they still have 64.14 rude drivers per 1,000.
3. Ventura, California
Ok, now we really have to start wondering if California should ever be one of our vacation destinations again!
Third on the list is Ventura, California with 64.03 rude drivers per 1,000, according to Insurify.com.
Ventura does offer some great beaches like San Buenaventura State Beach and beautiful landscapes like Channel Islands National Park where you’ll spot rare island foxes – but it may not be worth enduring all the honking and colorful language you’ll likely encounter.
Skip the chaos and keep your peace.
4. Hampton, Georgia
So much for that southern hospitality – Hampton, Georgia, comes in at number four with 62.35 rude drivers per 1,000.
The town is small, with less than 7,000 residents, and is nicknamed the “tree city” for their large oak trees lining the town.
With so many treetop homes, Hampton is a great place to go birdwatching.
But, if you don’t want to share the road with some of the rudest people behind the wheel, then we recommend heading west to Harlingen, Texas for some world-renowned birdwatching.
While the above cities made the top of the “rude driver” list, insurify.com also looked at where the most polite drivers reside in the United States.
If you’re looking for kind drivers who mind their own business, you might want to consider putting Somerset, Kentucky; Corbin, Kentucky; and Rio Rancho, New Mexico on your next road trip list.
For now, you still have the freedom to drive through any of these rude cities of your choosing…
… unlike flying, where Delta’s CEO recently announced they will permanently ban rude passengers from flying on their planes and are encouraging other airlines to ban them too.
So if you want to hit the open road on your next trip, don’t let a few ornery drivers stop you.
The freedom and versatility of driving still takes the cake when it comes to traveling, just maybe steer clear of a few stops along the way.
