Even with travel at a standstill, people are still looking to experience a socially-distanced fall getaway.
And let’s face it – there’s nothing better than breathing in that crisp fall air and soaking in the foliage at a rugged campground.
But then there are people (like me) who have never been camping in their entire life but still want to experience the great outdoors… just in a more “glamorous” type of way!
The thought of sleeping on the ground or in a rustic cabin (without bathrooms) full of bugs and cobwebs just isn’t for everyone.
Enter “glamping.”
Glamping gives folks a more “orchestrated” version of the outdoors. It gives us indoor types attractive accommodations without sacrificing the beauty of nature.
And the good news is these hotspots are popping up all over the country – and even around the world!
Sunrise Teepee, Texas
Ever sleep in a teepee?
What about a decked-out teepee – with a real bed and running water?
This unique glamping experience allows you to sleep in an actual teepee, but with all the “modern” accommodations you’re used to like bedding, a kitchenette, and a shower.
But you’ll also get the best of nature with access to kayaking, hiking, fishing and bird watching – all in a peaceful and serene environment.
This is definitely not a party spot but the perfect, unique romantic getaway for a couple or even a solo traveler.
Under Canvas, Arizona
With just a 25-minute drive to the Grand Canyon, you can have your pick from a deluxe tent to even a suite-style tent which sleeps 7.
You’ll get the best of camping like roasting marshmallows over an open firepit under the stars – while still getting a good night’s rest in an actual bed (with pillows), and take a shower (with running hot water) in the morning.
Yeah, yeah, I know the true outdoor types are rolling their eyes at anyone even thinking this resembles a camping experience.
Nonetheless, this spot is good for large or small groups– and it’s a favorite destination of many American travelers.
Huttopia White Mountains, New Hampshire
Upon arrival, you have the option of shopping at their grocery area and wine corner to stock up on “necessities.”
Talk about a bonus!
And yes, they even have Wi-Fi access in the lounge in case you just have to check your email or social media.
This “glamping” experience offers everything – from a lake and beach, to a heated pool with homemade pizzas.
You have your choice of a tent or cabin – and the prices start as low as $104 a night. Not bad.
Should you choose their two-floor chalet cabin, you’ll get everything from a gas cooker, fridge, and even a coffee maker.
Basically, it’s like a hotel… in the mountains.
But you can still claim the “camping” experience. Well, sort of.
Something New
But seriously, even if you are a rugged outdoor enthusiast, glamping might be something to consider.
It’s a unique experience (when else are you going to sleep in a teepee) and it’s the perfect compromise for couples and friends who either gravitate towards sleeping in a 5-star hotel or in a sleeping bag.
Truly the best of both worlds, one can expect the popularity of “glampgrounds” to only grow as Americans look for the best way to travel and still keep their distance.
