Every traveler is looking for the latest and greatest hotel hack – but sometimes the tried-and-true methods are simply the best.
And the good news is, with these hacks you won’t have to spend a ton of money or waste time strategically researching each place you stay.
Whether you’re looking for a more comfortable experience– or want to save a few bucks off your next stay – here are some of easiest (and proven) hotel hacks you can try on your next trip.
Ask – And You Shall Receive
It’s true – hotels are getting stingier with providing “free” amenities – but just because they aren’t in your room doesn’t mean they aren’t available.
Forget your phone charger?
The front desk likely has a box of forgotten chargers – and will be happy to loan you one.
Don’t want to use the same bath towel each time after bathing?
Despite the hotels attempt to “be green” and “save the planet”– more towels are usually available upon request.
If you don’t feel like waiting – ask for these as soon as you check in to your room – so you’ll have a stash ready for all your shower needs.
And if you feel like sleeping in and want a late checkout – many hotels will allow it – you’ve just got to ask.
Avoid The Grossest Areas
Even in the hyper-vigilant world of COVID-19 cleaning protocols – your room is still a bastion of germs.
The remote control gets cleaned like never…
… and has touched the hands of countless people… who have touched things we don’t even want to think about.
Same goes with surface points like faucet knobs – shower handles – etc.
Think we’re kidding at just how bad your room is?
Travel and Leisure reported:
“According to one study, approximately 81 percent of surfaces swabbed in a hotel room had at
least “some” fecal bacteria. But the most egregious surface was that of the TV remote control.”
Don’t freak out – but do take a quick moment and use a Lysol wipe and wipe down the surfaces you’ll touch.
And if you must use the remote control, place a shower bag or ice bag over it so you’ll spare yourself from ever having to touch the buttons with your bare hand.
Stick With The Same Hotel Brand
When looking for a place to stay – you might be tempted to hunt for the cheapest place.
But there’s value in loyalty with picking a hotel brand.
Depending on how often you’ll stay, you’ll earn perks such as early check-in times, free Wi-Fi, or complimentary breakfast.
COVID-19 has definitely altered (or given hotels an excuse) not to offer as much – but there’s still decent perks depending how often you travel.
And if you work your points just right (if that’s your thing), you can even get free nights – quicker than you think.
The Points Guy reported:
“With Marriott Bonvoy, you’ll get a fifth night free for every four consecutive nights you book with points. The benefit is available to all members and applies to all Bonvoy properties. Even better, the benefit applies to every fifth night, with no limit to the number of free nights.”
Other seasoned travelers have their preferred hacks – like bringing a multiple outlet surge protector so you’ll have space to plug in all your electronics – or using the pants hanger to close that annoying gap between your curtains.
You can use the shower to steam your clothes, or bring your own duct tape to “baby proof” the outlets in your room.
But whether you travel all the time for work – or just once a year for vacation – hotel hacks are here to stay – and they’ll make your next trip just a bit more comfortable.
