Fall in America is like an artist’s painting coming to life – the way the leaves change into gorgeous shades of red, orange, and yellow against a bright blue sky is truly a work of art.
Travelers from all over the world flock to America during the fall season hoping to visit at just the right time to get a glimpse of the changing leaves.
Now imagine being able to relax and see the best fall has to offer from the comfort of an Amtrak train, zipping you through the most vibrant and gorgeous fall sites in America.
Let’s face it – there’s nothing more American than boarding an Amtrak train and traveling to your destination. You don’t have to worry about getting groped by the TSA or getting your bottle of water snatched from you.
There’s no traffic jams or endless stops for bathroom breaks.
On a train, you can let someone else deal with getting you to your destination while you simply relax.
While there are many Amtrak routes you can take, if you’re looking for the “biggest bang for your buck,” The Lake Shore Limited route is a 21-hour journey from Chicago to Boston which will allow you to take a peek at the beauty of the leaves as they change into crimson shades of glory.
On the Lake Shore Limited route, you’ll breeze through Ohio to Erie, Pennsylvania and take a ride through Upper New York.
With the leaves radiating all types of different shades of golden hues, you’ll be able to see the beauty of fall in its prime.
As you continue on your route to Boston, you’ll blitz through Massachusetts and experience more eye-popping sites as the leaves change.
And here’s the best part, once you arrive to Boston, you can keep your fall journey going and hop on the Downeaster route which will take you on a quick journey from Boston through New Hampshire all the way to Maine to see even more of the gorgeous autumn leaves as they turn.
Many people extend their train journey and take the Downeaster back to Boston where they spend the week exploring the city.
Others switch up their routes to end up in the nation’s capital where they explore the District in the fall.
But regardless of which route you choose – there’s no better way to soak in the fall foliage than on a train zooming through a variety of states at their peak.
Yes, COVID-19 has placed some restrictions on train travel.
You’ll have to wear a mask everywhere on the train, unless you have a sleeper room which you can enter and close the door (mask free).
And depending on where you travel, you may have to present a negative COVID-19 test if your destination requires it.
While it’s a bit annoying to have to prove you don’t have COVID-19 just to travel, once you get the negative test, you’ll at least be able to enjoy your ride in peace – and maximize your time by sleeping through the night and letting someone else drive and keep your journey going.
So if you’re looking for a truly unique fall experience, consider a fall train ride through the Northeast to soak in the beauty of America.
It’s truly a once-and-a-lifetime experience.
