Extreme Sand Sports
Hit the slopes to sandboard for the day, which is very close to snowboarding but with less layers of clothes.
Sand sledding is another past-time the whole family can enjoy. Slide down the dusty hills on a specialized sled that gives you speed and control, and don’t forget to put your hands in the air when you take off!
If sandboarding is not your cup of tea, test your skills at sand skiing. The skis look very similar to snow skis, but are specialized to handle the rough sand.
Most people don’t have gear lying around for extreme sand sports, so check in with either Kristi Mountain Sports in Alamosa on your way in, or Great Sand Dunes Oasis (April-October) at the park entrance to get fitted for your unforgettable experience.
