A free gourmet breakfast and complementary spa robe are no longer enough to persuade travelers to book their next trip.
While the pandemic has altered travel for everyone, those who are used to a more luxurious experience are being catered to in a whole new way.
In order to gain their business back, resorts and travel advisors are quickly adapting to anticipating the new needs of luxury travelers – and the latest upcoming travel trends just might surprise you.
Those who were accustomed to luxury travel used to settle comfortably in their first class seat with drink in hand while the rest of us walked by like cattle, trying to stuff our bags in a tight overhead space and then squeeze into a tiny middle seat.
But these days, a first-class ticket just doesn’t make the cut.
Luxury travelers now want their own private plane – complete with private ground transport when they arrive.
Well, private companies are jumping at the chance and have made renting a private plane more “affordable” than in the past – slashing prices as much as 40%.
And with companies offering to fly up to ten people for a $10,000 price tag – those with extra cash can easily grab ten of their buddies and each pay $1,000 to have their own socially-distanced jet.
As for the rest of us, we’ll be happy to get an aisle or window seat!
As it stands, most people still want their space when traveling and they’re even willing to book during the offseason to have it.
Gone are the days of choosing a trip at a crowded resort and hotel – those with the cash to burn are willing to pay whatever it takes for seclusion and privacy.
And while this used to include paying extra to have someone wait on them hand and foot – now people are paying more to have less staff and people around them.
Travel Luxury Magazine reported:
“Luxury travelers are focused even more on privacy than they would normally. With some hotels not being able to provide this option, they may look for private villas, private suites, private yachts, or fully-enclosed houses or pods so they will not have to interact with people outside of their “bubbles.”
Social Distancing measures will also increase the need for personalized experiences. More privacy precludes the need for fully staffed yachts or villas for instance, and people will look to book more remote and local locations with urban locations expected to struggle. Hotels will have to offer variable dining times to adhere to Social Distancing, and some luxury hotel chains have even gotten creative by offering ‘luxury quarantine stays’.
Say goodbye to lavish luau parties on the beach or urban city rooftop hangouts.
For those who can afford it, having a private villa (or even their own island) that comes already stocked is where it’s at.
An Increased Focus on Hygiene
But with a hyper-sensitive population now more focused on “keeping safe” and clean, places with bad reviews or even a hint of uncleanliness are likely to suffer.
Those that have stepped up their game with HEPA filters and sanitation systems, as well as offering virtual everything (like ordering and paying for food), are likely to attract more visitors.
Travelers are looking for a “no contact” experience and want to eat their lunch without being surrounded by people or having to touch a menu covered in someone else’s fingerprints.
How ironic that just a year ago, liberals were moving towards eliminating individual hygiene products in hotel rooms and installing communal soaps and shampoos in rooms.
Looks like “keeping people safe” trumps saving the planet now.
And it’s likely the demands will continue to grow for those who can afford to pay for what they want.
As for the rest of us who can’t afford our own private jet or island – we’ll gladly settle for a maskless camping trip in the great outdoors!
