Lay Low
Now is not the time to show off your expensive jewelry. Although you may love your pearl necklace or gold watch, don’t bring it overseas.
When you travel abroad, the goal is to fit in, not stand out.
No one cares about your designer shoes, or your expensive purse—except the thief who is thrilled he found a target who flaunts their wealth like a fool.
By drawing unnecessary attention to how much money you have (or pretend to have), you are asking for trouble.
That’s not to say you have to dress like a bum, just be normal. Wear something simple. Save your expensive gear for when you’re back in the states.
And make sure to keep your money in different locations on your body, not all in one place. This way, even if you do get robbed, you won’t lose everything in one swipe.
Consider tiny belt packs that are sleek and go under your clothes, or buy clothing with internal pockets.
