Familiarize Yourself With The Types Of Travel Photography.
In general, there are six main categories of travel photography. Some photographers focus on only one area, while others focus on all of them. This is called General Travel Photography.
Landscape photography captures the beauty of nature around you. This can include mountains, the ocean, the sky, a field of flowers, or anything that catches your eye on your travels!
Portrait photography is the art of capturing a person or a group of people. This can be especially important in travel photography, as it portrays the people and the culture of wherever you are visiting. An example of a famous travel portrait is Steve McCurry’s Afghan Girl, taken for National Geographic.
Architecture photography is the photography of buildings or other structures. This can also include statues and monuments within cities, towns, and villages.
Animal photography captures animals and insects. This could include photos of wildlife on a safari, or livestock on a farm, ocean life, or any wildlife you come across.
Street photography, also called candid photography, captures people and events occurring in real life, in real time. These can be pictures of a locals shopping at an outdoor market, families enjoying a street fair, or people going about their everyday lives. It really captures the fleeting and honest moments of life happening before you.
Food photography is the photography of food, and the preparation and presentation of it. This area of photography also includes the kitchen it was prepared in, who prepared it, and the dining area it is consumed in. Some blogs and travel shows are devoted solely to this aspect of travel photography and journalism.
