Comedian Mike Stanley and his girlfriend found themselves in an unthinkable situation while aboard a Frontier Airlines flight.
Stanley’s girlfriend is deaf and relies on lip-reading to communicate.
When she informed the flight attendant she needed to read her lips in order to understand her – the flight attendant mocked her disability and then kicked her off the plane. And you won’t believe the reason why.
To start, the mask mandate has been miserable for all of us – but especially for those who have trouble hearing.
For those who are deaf or hard of hearing, reading lips is what they depend on to communicate.
Stanley’s girlfriend was putting her bag in the storage area above her seat when her mask accidentally slipped down below her nose.
She noticed the flight attendant was trying to tell her something but couldn’t understand what she was saying.
The series of events that followed are beyond unconscionable.
Stanley took to Twitter and tweeted at Frontier Airlines to recall what happened:
“@Fly Frontier just kicked my deaf girlfriend off the flight after she couldn’t understand what the attendant was saying. She said “i’m sorry I’m deaf, and only read lips” then the flight attendant mocked her and called the service rep to have us removed.
Absolutely disgusted.
Her mask slipped as she was putting her things in the overhead compartment. She immediately put it back over her nose when she figured out what the attendant was saying. Then the attendant said “ugh… I’m so over people” and mocked her by saying “I ONLY read lips to every row behind us
The @FlyFrontier rep came on, asked us to leave the plan with, get this, HER MASK UNDER HER NOSE, and said that the attendant said we weren’t compliant. Unreal. I’ll never fly this airline again.”
Unbelievable!
I get it… flight attendants are stressed out.
But really?
A passenger’s mask briefly falls below her nose… and she gets kicked off the plane for not being “compliant”?!
Not to mention, she was deaf and couldn’t even hear what the flight attendant was trying to say to her.
And then, instead of profusely apologizing, the flight attendant proceeds to mock her – in front of other passengers.
The days of compassionate – much less professional – flight attendants are gone.
Instead of seeing passengers as humans, they’re more concerned about “enforcing” the ridiculous mask mandate…
… they’re even willing to kick pregnant passengers and people with special needs off their flights.
And who could forget the story of Ali Cleek who was flying Southwest Airlines…
… and the flight attendant rudely suggested she “glue” the mask to her screaming 2-year-old toddlers face?
While we have compassion for flight attendants who are unnecessarily harassed and groped by unruly passengers – it’s not right to take out the frustrations of one’s job on innocent passengers who are just trying to get to their destination.
What are your thoughts on the flight attendant mocking a deaf passenger for only being able to read lips?
Do you think the passenger should have been kicked off the plane because her mask fell briefly below her nose?
