Jennie Berry is paralyzed from the waist down, so during her flight she asked the flight crew to help her to the restroom.
But instead of assisting her, a flight attendant made a snarky remark and continued serving snacks to other passengers.
In a desperate attempt to make it to the restroom in time – Jennie was forced to drag her entire body down the airplane aisle. You won’t believe the horrific details.
To start – every airline has the responsibility to help those with physical disabilities make their way safely through the airport and board their flight on time.
And once on the plane, passengers still have rights.
Sadly, as we saw during the COVID-19 pandemic, airlines humiliated their passengers with disabilities – from mocking deaf travelers to even kicking families with special needs children off the plane.
This chaos is on top of the careless way airlines are known to handle disabled passenger’s wheelchairs – even causing one woman to die because they had damaged her wheelchair and the replacement didn’t properly support her fragile body.
One would think airlines would get it together – but Jennie’s story shows just how out of touch airlines are when it comes to helping those with disabilities.
While Jennie was wheeled onto the plane – the crew wouldn’t accommodate her when she asked to sit near the restroom towards the front of the plane.
They then went onto insult her telling her she should just “wear a nappy.”
Paddle Your Own Kanoo reported:
“A crew member allegedly claimed Berry could wear a nappy to avoid a mid-flight trip to the lavatory, but it was already too late. When Berry asked for help to use the lavatory, cabin crew allegedly just looked on.
A family member films Berry as she drags herself towards the front of the aircraft, using the seats on either side of her to hoist herself backwards. Cabin crew can be seen in the background continuing to serve snacks from the trolley as if nothing is going on.”
How absolutely humiliating – and needless! All the crew had to do was seat her close to the restroom – or help her get there.
Jennie posted the video to TikTok, and the video was viewed millions of times – horrifying each person who witnessed the poor woman dragging herself down the aircraft aisle.
@wheelie_good_lifeHere’s how I had to get to the toilet on my recent Albastar Airlines flight. They told me I should wear a nappy and wee in my seat instead of having an aisle chair onboard…
After the video went viral, the airline was forced to issue a statement. But instead of admitting their mistake, they simply vowed to “investigate” the incident and mumbled how the “safety” of every passenger is a priority.
Paddle Your Own Kanoo continued:
“Our main concern is the safety and comfort of all our passengers on each and every flight we operate,” the statement continued.
“We are working to investigate the incident to ensure that this isolated incident does not happen again on any of our aircraft.”
Passengers with physical or intellectual disabilities deserve to travel just like everyone else – without facing discrimination or humiliation.
Let’s hope the airlines are held accountable for their actions.
