When most couples dream about traveling together, they often envision a luxurious world of cruise ships and first-class flights…
… but one couple thought outside the box to make it happen.
After purchasing a used ambulance from eBay – this incredible couple has since traveled to 50 separate countries (along with their dog) so far – and just wait until you hear how they did it.
Traveling the world in an ambulance?
Bought off eBay?
With their dog?
Welcome to the future.
UK couple Lawrence Dodi and Rachel Nixon were determined to travel and see the world – and while they didn’t originally plan on purchasing an ambulance – they confessed they “fell in love with the aesthetics” of it and decided to give it a try.
And then the couple stumbled upon an article about a group of travelers who were trying to set the Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled in an ambulance.
Nixon thought it might be cool to try the same thing with their newly purchased ambulance – and once they learned no one had yet set the record, they decided to give it a go.
But in order to qualify – they had to meet strict requirements.
They had to keep the vehicle looking and functioning like an ambulance – even though it wouldn’t be used as such.
CNN reported:
“Nixon and Dodi were told that they’d need to meet a list of specifications, such as ensuring that the vehicle retained the capability to function as an ambulance (even though it wouldn’t be used as an emergency vehicle,) and that it still resembled an ambulance externally.
They say they took this on board while designing the interior layout, and were able to keep to the guidelines, while still having room for a cooker and a fridge “and all the other things you would associate with a camper van.”
In the many months since they left the UK, the pair have driven around 24,000 kilometers (nearly 15,000 miles), and traveled to 24 countries, including Armenia and Bosnia, with Nixon acting as “chief driver.”
And just when you thought you’ve heard it all!
What a creative way to get out there and travel.
The truth is, those who love to travel and explore will always find a way to do so.
While thousands of people were left stranded at the airport over the summer due to canceled and delayed flights…
… Lawrence Dodi and Rachel Nixon were happily driving around the world in their ambulance – with their dog – soaking in all there is to see.
Of course, there have been challenges with COVID-19 mandates and restrictions, wars, and protests breaking out in certain countries.
But they’ve had the endurance to stay the course and adapt to the ever-changing circumstances.
CNN reports the couple plans to ship their ambulance to Canada to drive the Pan-American Highway (which spans 19,000 miles) all the way down to the bottom of Argentina.
Cheers to this creative couple!
We wish them well on their journey.
