When single people set out to travel, many never dream they could actually meet their future spouse on an airplane.
After all, that only happens in the movies, right?
Well for these lonely travelers, not only did they meet their soulmate – some chose to tie the knot while flying!
David and Cathy met while playing an “aviation themed” game online.
Their love for airplanes was so intense, they decided to have their actual wedding ceremony flying at 37,000 ft. in the air!
The passengers looked on as guests, and a crew member served as the officiant (although the legal wedding took place right at the airport before they took off).
Talk about a unique wedding experience!
Of course, for those with a lot of money who want their friends and family present, private jet companies are offering couples the chance to take part in a “wedding in the sky” experience.
Travel and Leisure reports:
“The experience, which starts at $28,000, also includes a two-hour flight on board a plane like the Challenger 850, which seats up to 16 people. It also includes a chauffeur to take the couple to and from their airport of choice, champagne, canapés, and personalized wedding favors for the full wedding party, a cabin crew member to ‘unofficially’ take on the role of an officiant, flower arrangements, a customized playlist, and the choice of flight route upon request.”
They have a slightly less expensive version ($18,000) for those who want to skip all the extras and simply elope.
Weddings are expensive anyways, and with many establishments still closed down, it’s no surprise couples are jumping on this luxury bandwagon.
And then there are those who found love through unexpected hiccups.
Mafalda Feliciano was bumped off her original flight and ended up shoved on another overcrowded plane – stuck in the middle seat between two strangers.
Never did she dream one of the men sitting next to her would one day become her husband.
Sitting next to her was Sameer Sah and the two hit it off and ended up talking the entire flight.
Once they landed, they spent time together in Egypt.
The rest was history.
CNN reported:
“Over the next couple of years, Feliciano and Sah met every three months or so for two-week vacations. They reunited in London, Brazil, Brussels, the Netherlands, New York, and the Dominican Republic. Both love to travel and say exploring the world with one another was an unforgettable experience.”
But long-distance relationships can get expensive, so the couple made the decision to get married.
While the start was rocky, they’ve been married for 16 years now!
All because Feliciano was booted off her original flight.
Think it can’t happen to you?
A study by HSBC bank reports that 1 out of 50 travelers meet the “love of their life” while flying on a plane.
And with the new trend of digital nomads packing up their lives and moving overseas, coupled with people who are lonely and desperate for companionship – anything can happen.
But a word of caution – be careful out there!
Especially to single ladies traveling alone – don’t assume the handsome stranger you meet at the bar is your soulmate.
Be safe and be smart.
With that said, it’s always a beautiful thing when a mutual love for travel can bring lives together.
