If you are a frequent flyer, you may think you’ve finally mastered the art of travel and have it down to a science.
Maybe you are an expert in some areas. But flight attendants have the upper edge in knowing the hidden secrets that take place inside the aircraft cabin.
From sketchy food to unsanitary conditions, they’ve got the secret scoop.
So if you want to learn a few tips to boost your travel status and make your flight a bit more pleasant, check out these insider tips from flight attendants who let loose and shared it all.
You Will Be Judged
From the moment you step on the plane, flight attendants are judging you.
They do everything from look you up and down to calculate your weight to see if you need a seatbelt extension to singling out strong guys in their minds that could be helpful during an emergency.
Love it or hate it — they are sizing you up.
And… they are looking at your bags – how many you have – where they’ll fit.
So if you think you can sneak on extra stuff – you might get busted.
If you stumble on the plane drunk – yep – they’ll notice that too.
Walk on with an attitude? Uh oh – you’ll seriously get flagged.
The best thing you can do is smile and say hello when you board the plane.
If you’re one of the rude passengers who has an attitude and complains about everything… let’s just say you don’t want to make an enemy of your flight attendant.
Be Careful What You Order
It’s no secret airplane food is grossly unhealthy (not to mention it doesn’t even taste good).
But the food is so bad, even flight attendants refuse to eat it!
The meals served to you are prepared on the ground – hours (some flight attendants admit days) in advance – and then heated (often overcooked) on the plane.
Save your calories and bring your own food instead of eating heavily processed and salty burnt food.
Really. Your stomach will thank you.
And you might want to avoid ordering anything made with tap water on the plane… let’s just say the water is sketchy.
As in, it’s the same potable water that goes through the bathroom system.
Yuck!
Most flight attendants refuse to drink water on a plane (even if it has been boiled for tea or coffee).
They bring their own on board – and you should too.
The Planes Are Actually Really Gross
Think about it – as soon as you land, the crew is quickly cleaning up the plane for the passengers waiting to board.
How clean do you think the plane can really get in such a short amount of time?
Imagine all the bodily fluids that are all over the seats and floor – from a bloody nose to a child that wet their pants, to the super sweaty guy in suit… it’s all there.
With that, avoid using the blankets and pillows they provide. Bring your own instead.
The last thing you want to do is cuddle up with a blanket that’s covered in someone else’s bodily fluids.
And to avoid getting sick, make sure you spray your tray and arm rests with hand sanitizer!
You never know what kind of person (or animal) was in the seat before you.
In fact, flight attendants actually admit that the same table you’re eating your mystery dish on could have just been used to change a baby’s diaper the flight before.
Hungry still?
Learn From The Pros
Flight attendants have really seen it all.
From insane passengers like the lady who brought a squirrel on a plane and refused to give up “her baby” as she called it, to bizarre requests and fights– nothing really surprises them anymore.
But in order to avoid a massive public outcry and panic, they don’t really tell you all the things they wish they could.
At least not officially.
Now that you know a little more about what really happens on a plane (or in terms of cleanliness, what doesn’t happen), hopefully you’ll stay clear of the coffee and load up on hand sanitizer for your next flight!
