Holiday season is closing, leaving you exhausted after eleven relatives made themselves at home in your den over winter break.
Now the airports are clearing out and the airlines are dropping their prices (and their oppressive mandates), making you forget that your fridge and pantry have been raided until they are bare.
All of this adds up to it being the perfect time to get away. But where should you go?
While the world is your oyster, before you choose your destination, it’s best to decide whether you want a quick weekend-getaway, a close-to-home adventure, or an exotic international excursion.
Then you need to decide if you’re going to delight in all winter has to offer – or fly south and bask in the warm sun like all the other sane people.
Either way, here are our favorite January destinations.
Park City, Utah
It’s no secret Utah has some of the most amazing snow-covered mountains in the United States, making it a top destination for January travel.
Park City Mountain Resort has epic slopes for skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, dogsledding, and snowtubing, so everyone in the family can find something to love.
A special treat is the Sundance Film Festival set for January 19-29 – a must-see experience for any film buff.
Stay at the Washington School House Hotel for an authentic, local vibe that can’t be matched.
Fort Worth, Texas
The stockyards of Fort Worth, Texas is one of the best family-fun environments you will ever have the privilege of experiencing.
On top of everything a tourist could possibly want in a vacation like restaurants, bars, clubs, shops, and historic sites – Fort Worth also offers rodeos and twice-daily Longhorn cattle drives.
You won’t get that in a liberal state!
And with lovely, mild weather this time of year, January is an ideal time to take advantage of all the outdoor activities as well.
There are petting zoos for the kids, horseback riding with your spouse, and rodeos at the Cowtown Coliseum for the kid who can’t get enough of the Western shows and shops.
Be sure to stay at Hotel Drover for some good ‘ol fashioned southern hospitality.
The Bahamas
Sometimes the weary traveler has the need for some tropical rays that you can’t get stateside.
In this case, the Bahamas is the place to be in January.
With 700 islands to choose from – such as Cat Island, Crooked Island, and Eleuthera – there’s no limit to the Instagram-worthy pictures you can take.
If you want to avoid all the other tourists, head to the island of Exumas, known for their swimming pigs – or Andros, the largest and least-populated of the Bahamas.
For a new and exciting stay, book your visit with The Cove Eleuthera which just received fresh renovations.
There are so many amazing destinations Proud American Traveler wants you to experience, but for January, these are our favorites!
Happy Travels!
